Why "The Exchange"
The Exchange is inspired by my late Nanny, Jessie Harding. She worked on the old telephone exchange, manually plugging in cables to connect people’s phone calls. But she did a whole lot more than just route wires. Before putting a call through, people would often stay on the line to ask Jessie her advice. She became a definitive lifeline—sharing information, recommending people for jobs, and connecting her community.
For Jessie, this was personal. Three of her five sons were disabled, and she was relentless in her pursuit to ensure they lived normal, fulfilling lives. Through the power of her network at the exchange, she did just that - finding them jobs and uncovering opportunities no one else thought possible.
Why we exist
That relentless spirit, that warmth and that innate drive to help people when they get a bit stuck is exactly why we exist. We believe that getting stuck shouldn't mean staying stuck.
